Two people are dead after the vehicle they were traveling in hit a guardrail and then a tree. Police say the car was doing speeds up to 70 miles per hour in an 25 mile per hour zone.

WABI-TV reports 26-year-old James Hatt and 31-year-old Bridget Robinson, both of Jonesport, were killed on impact. Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said a trooper saw their Cadillac pull into and out of a parking lot a mile before the crash that happened early Saturday morning on Main Street in Jonesport.

Investigators worked for hours but had still not determined what caused the crash, why the couple was speeding, or who was driving the car. There's no word on who owned the Cadillac. The accident remains under investigation.
