The MDI Trojans Boys Basketball Team led by as much as 17 points before the Ellsworth Eagles cut the lead to 3 points, but that was as close as Ellsworth would get, as MDI pulled away in the final minutes for a 70-55 victory in Ellsworth at Katisaficas Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 10, 2018

MDI led 16-8 in the 1st Quarter. Andrew Phelps had 5 points with a 3-pointer for MDI. Derek Collin had 4 points, Colby Lee had a 3-pointer, Drew Shea had 2 points and Eli Parady went 2-2 from the free throw line. Ellsworth received 6 points from Dylan Taplin with 2 3-pointers and Jared Hamilton had 2 points.

It was 31-21 at the end of the 1st Half. In the 2nd Quarter, MDI received 3-pointers from Phelps, Finn McConomy, and Drew Shea while Brett Duley, Colby Lee and Derek Collin each chipped in 2 points. After being held scoreless in the 1st Quarter Zach Harris had 7 points with 2 3-pointers and Sam Giffin had 6 points.

Ellsworth cut the lead to just 5 points at the end of the 3rd Quarter as MDI led 49-44. In the 3rd Quarter Harris had 8 points with 2 more 3-pointers. Darby Barry drained 2 3-pointers, Jackson Curtis scored 4 points, Bradly Smith had a 3-pointer and Dylan Taplin had 2 points. In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth hit 5 3-pointers. For MDI in the 3rd Quarter Lee had 5 points, Collin 4 points, Phelps 4 points with a 3-pointers, his 3rd of the game, McConomy a 3-pointer and Drew Shea added 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter MDI outscored Ellsworth 21-11. For the Trojans McConomy had 6 points with his 3rd 3-pointer. Lee had 3 points, Owen Mild 3 points and Phelps, Collin and Shea each had 2 points. MDI's Steven Pierce scored his first varsity points for the Trojans in the 4th Quarter, ending up with 2 points. For Ellsworth, Barry had his 3rd 3-pointers, and Giffin, Andrew McCullough, Connor Crawford and Jackson Curtis each had 2 points.

MDI had 4 players in double figures. Colby Lee and Andrew Phelps finished with 14 points each, Derek Collin had 12 points and Finn McConomy had 10 points. The Trojans finished with 8 3-pointers and were 8-11 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Zach Harris with a game high 15 points. Darby Barry had 9 points. The Eagles drained 10 3-pointers and were 1-7 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 7-1 and will play at Orono on Monday, January 15th at 3:30 with the pregame starting at 3:15 on AM 1370 WDEA, WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device
