The MDI Trojans Boys Basketball Team opened up their defense of their Gold Ball in style, defeating the Washington Academy Raiders 79-38 on Saturday morning, February 17th.  The Trojans, the 2nd seed, took the lead with 2:40 remaining in the 1st Quarter, 13-10, and never looked back.

In fact, the Trojans ended the 1st quarter on a 13-0 run, to take a 20-10 lead. Finn McConomy drained 3 3-pointers for 9 points to lead MDI in the 1st Quarter. Derek Collin had 6 points, and Andrew Phelps had 5 points with a 3-pointer. For Washington Academy Brandon Allard had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Jim Lin had a 3-pointer and Milan Filipovich had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Washington Academy 21-9 to take a 41-19 lead at the end of the 1st Half. The Trojans shot a blistering 71 percent from the field in the 1st Half. Alden Fournier had 5 points, Phelps had 5 points with his 2nd 3-pointer, McConomy hit his 4th 3-pointer of the game and Derek Collin, Andrew Shea, Eli Parady and Owen Mild each had 2 points for the Trojans. For Washington Academy Kyle Case had 4 points, Allard and Filipovich 2 points each and Jim Lin was 1-2 from the free throw line.

MDI led 62-30 after the 3rd Quarter. Collin had 6 points, Phelps 5 points with his 3rd 3-pointer, Colby Lee had a 3-pointer, Mild 3 points and Brett Duley and Drew Shea chipped in with 2 points each. For Washington Academy Filipovich had 5 points, Lin 3 points, Donald Soctomah 2 points and Allard 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter Shea and Phelps had 4 points each, Erik Merchant hit a 3-pointer, and Duley. Parady and Mild each had 2 points for MDI. For Washington Academy Micah Vose and Soctomah each had 3 points and Tihomir Babic had 2 points.

MDI was led by Andrew Phelps with a game high 19 points. Derek Collin had 13 points and Finn McConomy had 12 points. The Trojans were 12-19 from the free throw line.

Washington Academy was led by Milan Filipovich with 9 points and Brandon Allard had 8 points. The Raiders were 6-9 from the free throw line.
