The 2018 Hemmings Motor News Great Race covers 17 cities, and over 2,000 miles; is an intense competition for vintage cars. On Thursday the 28th racers will be converging on the Seal Cove Auto Museum.

For 35 years The Great Race has run testing time-speed-endurance rally tests the abilities of 120 racers and their pre-1972 cars. A recounting of the journey will be broadcast as a TV show on the Velocity channel.

Seal Cove also has a little skin in the game with their head mechanic racing this year. The Museum’s Head Mechanic, Peter Brown, will compete in the race, and share his experiences through the Museum’s social media as he drives from Buffalo, NY to Halifax, NS. Brown will drive a 1930 Ford Model A boat-tailed speedster, owned by Ford Reiche. Reiche will act as navigator, a challenging role as he will have to determine the exact speeds to travel every minute of the route, described in a list of detailed instructions given to the team on the morning of each day of the race.

This Thursday's event at Seal Cove Auto Museum is called a Car-B-Que and is a combination car show, BBQ and Danny Harper concert. The event will be held on the lawn of the museum. Their release says there will be BBQ, seafood and vegetarian options for food. This is a lunch stop for the racers will be from 12 noon to 3:30 so spectators can get a good look at all the participation cars  and visit with the driving teams. The rest of the festivities go from 4-9 PM.
