Texas Claims Back-To-Back SLWS Titles
West University LL from Houston, Texas is Senior League Baseball world champion - again. Saturday afternoon's 8-1 win over Ohio sets SLWS history on two accounts.
The Texas team won the first ever back-to-back titles since the event moved to Bangor 14 years ago.
And, West University LL becomes the first U-S league to win three world titles in the 54 year history of Senior League play.
This year's title game seemed to get decided in one big inning - the bottom half of the third inning.
Ohio and Texas were tied 1-1 when the floodgates opened. Texas scored seven runs on five hits, three Ohio errors, two runs scored on passed balls and when Mitchell Black drove in two runs with a triple, Texas had the lead 8-1.
Pitchers Joe Gobillot and Jacob Millender combined to hold Ohio to three hits.
Texas wins the SLWS with a 5-1 record. Ohio, bidding for a first ever title, finished with a 3-1 record.
