They've played together for years on high school, local and AAU teams, and Wednesday, November 11th at 3 PM at Mount Desert Island High School's Library, Sierra Tapley and Kelsey Shaw will sign letters of intent together. This will make their verbal commitments official, as Tapley will be heading to the University of Maine next year, and Shaw will be heading to Stonehill College. The public is welcome to come to witness the signing!

On June 25, 2015 MDI High School basketball star Sierra Tapley of Bar Harbor committed to attend the University of Maine, and play for the Black Bears and Coach Richard Barron beginning in September 2016.. She was the 2015 Big East Girl’s Player of the Year. According to Tapley, she will receive a full scholarship.

Tapley, is the daughter of Wyman Tapley and Kelly Taine.

On August 10th  Kelsey Shaw verbally committed to attend Division 2 Stonehill College beginning in the fall of 2016.

Kelsey Shaw was the Big East Player of the Week twice and co-Player of the Week twice in the 2014-15 high school season.

Kelsey is the daughter of Amy and Norman Shaw. Her sister, Hannah Shaw began her second year at Endicott College where she plays for the Endicott College Gulls.

MDI finished the regular season last year with a perfect 18-0 record before being upset by Gardiner in the Tournament. The 2015-15 MDI Trojans open the season Friday December 4th at Old Town at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio
