Speed Enforcement on Route 1A

Happy 4th of July Weekend! A lot of people will be on the road, and Route 1A is one of the busiest roads, leading Down East.

The Ellsworth Police Department in conjunction with the Hancock County Sheriff's Department and Maine State Police conducted a speed detail on Route 1A Friday afternoon June 30th. The posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour. During that time, 87 motorists were stopped for speeds of at least 70 miles per hour. Of those, under 50 per cent were out of state motorists.

There is nothing that is so important that necessitates driving that fast or impaired.
