On a night when the Red Sox actually produced some offense, the pitching let them down blowing a 7-run lead in a 13-10 loss to Toronto.Boston came out of the gate on fire in the first inning where they had 6 hits and scored 5 runs. They eventually built a 7-run lead before it all fell apart in the 7th inning as the Blue Jays scored 9 runs to take the lead and post the win.

Matt Barnes started the 7th inning on the mound and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and never got an out. He was replaced by Junichi Tazawa who added fuel to the fire by giving up 4 more runs on 5 hits and also could not get an out. Tommy Layne eventually got the Sox out of the inning but not before allowing another run to score the 9-run inning that saw 12 Blue Jays go to the plate.

To make matters worse, Mookie Betts had to leave the game after the second inning after a violent face first collision with the center-field wall while trying to make a catch. The team announced he has a sprained lower back and will be re-examined today.

After the game pitcher Joe Kelly and first baseman Mike Napoli talked about the loss.

The Red Sox will attempt to rebound from the loss with an afternoon game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The pregame starts at 12:50 with the game at 1:35 PM on AM 1370 WDEA. Clay Buchholz will be on the mound for the BoSox.
