After building momentum prior to the all-star break, the Boston Red Sox have laid an egg to begin the second half after dropping a doubleheader to the Angels 11-1 and 7-3 as LA completes a 4-game sweep. Not only did Boston lose all four games, they were outscored 22-4. Starting pitching was a big problem on Monday as game 1 starter Eduardo Rodriguez never got out of the second inning after allowing 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks.

Game 2 starter Steven Wright didn't fair much better. He allowed 6 runs on 6 hits and walked 3 while pitching just 5 innings.

Albert Pujols provided much of the offense for the Angels by blasting 3 home runs as part of a 5-hit day where he also drove in 4 runs and scored 5 times. The Sox had chances to score but went 2-19 with runner in scoring position over the two games.

Boston now moves to Houston for a 3-game series against the Astros. Brian Johnson will make his Major League debut on the mound after posting an 8-6 record at Pawtucket with an ERA of 2.73. The pregame begins at 7:25 on AM 1370 WDEA
