Another six hour, 15 inning ballgame for the Boston Red Sox...and another win. 13-6 over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The victory was much needed as the Yankees had already posted a win over Baltimore. The Sox lead over the Yanks stays at three games with 15 games to play.

Somehow it's hard to remember that ace Chris Sale started this game for Boston. But, he lasted only 5.2 innings and gave up four runs.

Things looked bleak for the Sox. Entering the 9th inning, the Sox trailed 5-2 but scored three times off Rays closer Alex Colome to tie the game.

Then a bunch of extra innings. Neither team scored until the 14th inning when both scored one run.

That set up the 15th and the Sox unloaded for seven runs. Andrew Benintendi drove home the first run and then Mitch Moreland, Rafael Devers, Deven Marrero and Xander Bogaerts added RBIs.

The Sox used nine pitchers and they struck out 24 Rays batters. Dustin Pedroia was 0-9.

Boston is now 13-3 in extra inning games.

The magic number to clinch the AL East is now 13. The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays play the middle game of the 3 game series Saturday afternoon. The pregame starts at 5:25 with the 1st pitch at 6:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
