The Boston Red Sox comeback attempt in the ninth inning came up short as they fell to the Minnesota Twins in the second game of the series by a 2-1 score.

The bases were loaded with no outs in the bottom of the ninth when David Ortiz grounded into a double play that included a force out at home.  Hanley Ramirez would later line out to right field in the next at bat to end the contest, stranding two runners in scoring position.

Boston was stopped by Kyle Gibson who only allowed one run for the Sox in the first eight innings of the contest.  Closer Brandon Kintzler was able to work around some trouble to pick up his seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Things seemed to be going the Sox way as Mookie Betts led of the game with a home run on the second pitch of the home half of the first.  Boston would struggle all night to produce runs as they left a total of 13 runners on base during the game.  Betts also had to leave the game in the fifth inning with what is being called right knee soreness.  Manager John Farrell said the outfielder is day-to-day with the injury.

The Sox fall back into second place in the American League East race with the loss and the Baltimore Orioles win against Cleveland.  Boston will try to get back in the win column on Saturday night as David Price gets the start for the Sox. You can hear the pregame on Saturday starting at 6:25 PM on AM 1370 WDEA.
