The Red Sox made one unearned run hold up all night and it meant a 1-0 win in Tampa Bay. The Sox improve to 9-5 and continue to hold down first place in the AL East. They are now 2 games in front, ahead of Baltimore, New York and Toronto.

The lone run came in the third inning on double play attempt by the Rays. Mookie Betts slide hard into second base to cause a bad throw to first and Ryan Hannigan scored. The last time the Red Sox won 1-0 courtesy of an unearned run was April 21, 2005.

Wade Miley pitched 5.2 innings, giving up just three hits. But, when he walked back-to-back batters in the sixth, the bullpen took over.

Alexi Ogando, Robbie Ross Jr, Junichi Tazawa and Koji Uehara pieced things together to get the complete game shutout.

The Red Sox take on Tampa Bay in the 2nd game of the 3 game series Wednesday night with the pregame at 6:25 PM and first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.  Joe Kelly 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA takes the mound for the Red Sox and he'll be opposed by right hander Nathan Karns who is 1-1 with a  4.58 ERA.
