In a sure sign that projected Boston Red Sox starting catcher Christian Vazquez will be spending a considerable length of time on the disabled list, the Boston Red Sox Monday morning traded for Sandy Leon from the Washington Nationals.

UPDATE - The Red Sox placed Christian Vazquez on the 60 day Disabled List with a "Elbow strain".

It's expected that Ryan Hanigan and Blake Swihart will handle the catching duties for the Red Sox to start the season. Sandy Leon, who hasn't had tremendous success at the Major League level, may provide catching for the Pawsox. According to WEEI, Leon has only 107 at bats in the last 3 years for the Nationals, hitting just .189. He's known better for his defensive abilities than for his hitting.

There's no word, who the Red Sox traded for Leon at this time. Once that is announced we will update the story.

The Red Sox  are in Spring Training action tonight, Monday March 30th against Minnesota at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370. The Red Sox open the regular season one week from today, April 6th in Philadelphia at 3:05 PM, with the pregame starting at 2:20 pm.
