Residents of Southwest Harbor might want to attend the Selectmen Meeting on Tuesday night, July 18th  at 6 PM. Anticipating a large crowd, the meeting will be held at the Fire Station.

The first item under Old Business is Cruise Ship Discussion. The Harbor Committee reaffirmed it's unanimous vote on July 10th 5-0 in recommending to the Selectmen that a permanent ban against cruise ship activity in Southwest Harbor.

The Pearl Mist is scheduled to go into Bar Harbor on September 21st, but cannot dock or tender into Bar Harbor, as there are already 3 cruise ships scheduled to be in port on that day. They are proposing that they tender outside of Southwest Harbor and tender into Beal's Lobster Pier.

At the July 10th meeting, according to the Mount Desert Islander, the Chairman of the Southwest Harbor Planning Board, Mike Mansolilli stated that he believed that a cruise ship using Beal's dock would be a change of use and need approval by the Planning Board.

At the meeting, Justin Snyder, representing Beal's Lobster Pound assured those in attendance, that as of that date, there was no agreement in place for the Pearl Seas Cruises to use Beal's Dock.
