Sold – A Movie About Human Trafficking

It’s a subject that makes you uncomfortable to even consider… Human Trafficking. But it happens, not only around the world but in the United States and Maine.  That’s why the Mount Desert Island High School’s Interact Club, and the Rotary Club of Bar Harbor, in conjunction with the Red Empress Foundation present the movie SOLD on Tuesday May 16th at 7 PM. Admission is free although free will donations will be accepted and go to the Starfish Project an anti-trafficking organization.

The Event’s Facebook Page explains the movie as follows: “Through one extraordinary girl’s story, SOLD illustrates the brutality of child trafficking, which affects millions of children around the globe every year. Globally the average age of a trafficked girl is thirteen, the same age as the girl in the film. SOLD is a call to action, and a testament to the power and resilience of the human spirit.”

The hope is that by bringing SOLD to Bar Harbor it will help to inspire a global movement to address the crime of human trafficking domestically and internationally by educating others.

The film will be followed by a Question and Answer session with the guest speaker Carol Metzker, an amazing author, TEDx speaker, and fellow humanitarian raising awareness for child slavery and human trafficking.
