I know that this is the last thing you want to do, but doing so can prevent a fire in your dryer! Have you shoveled out your dryer vent?

After snowblowing out driveway and looking around the house, I realized that our dryer vent was completely covered! Snow on that side of the house was up to the windows on the 1st floor. But, out my wife and I went, to snowblow and shovel out the dryer vent!

While your outside cleaning around the dryer vent, make sure if you have a gas fireplace that the vent outside is clean of snow!

If you're running your car to help defrost the windows, make sure the exhaust pipe is free of snow. If not, that's a great way to get carbon monoxide backing up in the car!

If you have a fire hydrant near your property, do everyone a favor and shovel around it! The last thing the fire department wants to do when getting ready to fight a fire and couple a hose is to have to dig out the hydrant! Those are precious minutes!

Stay safe. Shovel safely!
