A search for a 50-year-old man is underway in the Parkman Mountain area of Acadia National Park after his car was found in the parking lot.

According to the Mount Desert Islander, rangers noticed the car during Tuesday's snowstorm in the parking lot next to the mountain. The vehicle hasn't moved since then and there's been no sign of Tim Philpott of Ellsworth.

On Thursday, rangers did a quick search around the immediate area but, when that search netted no results, they expanded their coverage to include off-trail areas. More personnel and volunteers joined the effort along with several dog teams from the Maine Association of Search and Rescue.

Officials say a warden service aircraft may be called in today. And, if needed, a forest service helicopter may be deployed. It's expected that, if there's still no sign of Philpott by tomorrow, the search may be suspended for the expected bad weather.
