Mount Desert Island Hospital is offering a Safe Sitter Babysitting Course on Wednesday, August 17th from 9:30 to 4:30 in the Wolf Conference Center at the Lisa Stewart Women's Health Center in Bar Harbor.

Students who complete the course will learn how, why and where injuries can happen and how they can be prevented. They will be taught infant and child choking rescue and CPR. The course, follows the American Heart Association's standards for rescue skills as well as instruction in first aid techniques from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Students will learn how to prevent problem behavior, run their own babysitting business, discuss issues of online and cell phone safety. They must pass a practical and written test that indicates their thorough understand of key concepts, and life and safety skills.

All participants will receive a Safe Stitter kit that includes an official Babysitter's Handbook, a drawstring bag-backpack, important numbers note pad, bandage dispenser and LED flashlight.
