After Walgreens purchased all Rite Aid stores in Maine last year it almost seemed inevitable, but happy customers of the store on High Street in Ellsworth were hoping for the best. It was not to be.

Unfortunately, Rite Aid at 260 High Street in Ellsworth will close this May 23rd, according to an article published at EllsworthAmerican.com.

The article claims that a local vendor doing business with Rite Aid received a letter from a company in Maryland that manages the expenses of the once popular drug store and pharmacy.  That letter stated that the store is closing and that the vendor's supplies should be removed by May 23rd.

The closing of Rite Aid will leave an empty building at the head of "the triangle" where a very popular auto dealership once stood, making prime property available for any potential business that would want to take advantage of the heavy traffic in the area.
