Revenge! Ellsworth Beats John Bapst

Wednesday night's game between the Ellsworth Girl's Basketball team and the John Bapst Crusaders was a game that had been circled on the Ellsworth Girl's calendars ever since they lost on a disputed 3-point shot at the Cross Insurance Center to John Bapst on December 14, 2013.

It was a very slow and deliberate 1st Quarter, as no team got onto the scoreboard until there was 2:12 left when Ellsworth's Caitlin Bean scored to put Ellsworth up 2-0. John Bapst didn't score until Maddy Higgins went 1-2 from the free throw line with 1:51 left in the quarter. Ellsworth led the 1st Quarter 6-4.

The tempo picked up in the 2nd Quarter. Ellsworth's Morgan Card scored 10 points and Emily Berry sank a 3-pointer. Maegan True scored 7 points for John Bapst, including a 3-pointer. At the end of the 1st Half, Ellsworth was up top 23-15.

In the 3rd Quarter, Morgan Card added 8 more points and True for John Bapst went 6-6 from the free throw line. Karrie O'Donnell added 5 points including a 3 pointer for the Crusaders, and Ellsworth's lead which at one point was 10 points was 7 at the end of the 3rd Quarter 33-26.

In the 4th Quarter Jocelyn Bell added 2 3-pointers for John Bapst, and Card added 6 more points for Ellsworth. Sydni Palmer went 3-4 sinking some crucial free throws for Ellsworth as they came away with the victory 42-34.

Ellsworth was led by Morgan Card, with a game high 28 points. The Eagles were 5-9 from the free throw line. John Bapst was led by Maegan True with 13 points. John Bapst was 11-15 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth improved to 7-9 and next plays at home Friday, January 31st against Sumner in a game that will be heard on WDEA AM 1370. John Bapst falls to 9-6 and will host Presque Isle, Saturday February 1st at the Cross Insurance Center.
