The Boston Red Sox snapped their 8 game losing streak, winning for the 1st time since after the All-Star break, defeating the Detroit Tigers 2-1 in 11 innings on Friday, July 24th at Fenway Park.

Mookie Betts walked to start off  the bottom of the 11th inning. Brock Holt then laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt, moving Betts to 2nd base. Xander Bogaerts then singled, and Betts slid in just ahead of the tag, giving the Red Sox the win. The Detroit Tigers challenged the play, and the review took nearly 4 1/2 minutes before the safe call was confirmed!

Things didn't look good for the Red Sox in the top of the 11th. Justin Masterson was pitching, and Ian Kinsler singled. Kinsler then advanced to 2nd base on Masterson's wild pitch. Masterson then walked Yoenis Cespedes and the Tigers had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. But, Masterson then got Victor Martinez to strike out swinging and Ryan Hannigan's throw to Pablo Sandoval at 3rd easily beat Kinsler who was caught stealing, and the Red Sox were out of the inning on a strike him out, throw him out double play!

Manager John Farrell on the win

Rick Porcello was outstanding for the Red Sox. He pitched 7 innings allowing just 5 hits, and 1 earned run. He didn't walk anyone and struck out 6. Justin Verlander was equally strong for the Tigers, going 8 innings and allowing 1 earned run, on 7 hits while striking out 3.

The two teams are back in action Saturday afternoon with the pregame starting at 3:20 and the 1st pitch at 4:05 on AM 1370 WDEA. Knuckleballer Steven Wright pitches for the Red Sox.
