The Boston Red Sox had a busy Friday as they completed a trade with Texas that sent Mike Napoli to the Rangers before going out and beating Detroit 7-2.The trade of Napoli happened shortly before the game started as the Sox also sent cash to the Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. Napoli's contract was due to expire at the end of the season. He was batting just .207 with 40 rbi.

With Napoli out of the lineup Boston collected 13 hits in the win over Detroit with Rusney Castillo going 3 for 3 at the plate with and rbi. Xander Bogaerts added 2 hits and 2 rbi while David Ortiz smacked a 2-run homer as part of his 2-hit night.

Joe Kelly pitched 5.1 innings to get the win allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 7. He improves to 4-6 and has won his last 2 starts.

Koji Uehara picked up the save and got injured in the process. With two outs Ian Kinsler hit a come backer to Uehara that hit him in the wrist. He recovered in time to throw to first and get the out before going to the clubhouse for x-rays. Those results were negative and he is considered day-to-day with some bruising and swelling.

The Red Sox continue their series with Detroit Saturday night with the pregame starting at 6:20pm on AM 1370 WDEA.
