It wasn't pretty, but the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-7 in 10 innings on Tuesday, August 7th in Toronto. The victory was Boston's 80th win of the season.

The Red Sox were trailing 3-1 going into the top of the 8th inning. JD Martinez hit his major league leading 34th homer in the top of the 8th, driving in 3 runs and the Red Sox scored 4 to take a 5-3 lead.

Toronto scored 1 in the bottom of the 8th and Craig Kimbrel came in to save the game. However, he served up a long homer to Justin Smoak in the bottom of the 9th, and the game was tied.

But in the 10th inning, the Red Sox blasted 2 homers. Mitch Moreland hit a 3 run homer and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a 2 run homer, to give the Red Sox a 10-5 lead.

Tyler Thornburg came on to pitch the 10th and gave up a 2 run homer to Kevin Pillar and then got a long fly to left field to close out the game.

Drew Pomeranz started the game for the Red Sox and went 4.2 innings alllowing 4 hits, and 2 runs. He struck out 1 and walked 5.

Marcus Stroman pitched 7 innings for Toronto before coming out with a hand issue. He allowed just 1 run and 2 hits striking out 4 and walking 3

Mookie Betts had a triple and JD Martinez ended up 3-5 with the homer and double. He now has 97 runs batted in.

The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox in extra innings, 4-3. The Red Sox lead the Yankees by 9 games.

The Red Sox will play Toronto in the 2nd game of the 3 game series Wednesday night, with the pregame starting at 6:20 and 1st pitch at 7:07. Brian Johnson is scheduled to pitch for Boston. You can hear the game on AM 1370 WDEA.
