The Boston Red Sox have played the New York Yankees for the last time in 2017 in  the regular season, and the result was a disappointing 9-2 loss in New York. The Red Sox's first place lead is now just 3.5 games with 25 games remaining. The Yankees won 11 of the 19 games the two teams played this season.

Chris Sale, continuously squeezed at the plate by the home plate umpire, lasted 4.1 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 6 and walked 2. The 3 runs were all on solo homers.

Meanwhile the Red Sox bats only mustered 2 hits off Luis Severino in 6 innings, and 5 all night.  Mitch Moreland had a double. the only extra base hit.

The Red Sox will now start a 9 game homestand, with 3 games against the Toronto Blue Jays, 3 games against the Tampa Bay Rays and 3 games against the Oakland A's.

Monday night's opener against the Blue Jays starts at 7:10 with the pregame starting at 6:25 PM on AM 1370. Rick Porcello is scheduled to pitch for the Red Sox
