The Red Sox lost to the Kansas City Royals Monday night, June 19th in the 1st game of the 3 game series, falling 4-2. Jackie Bradley Jr. came up short in trying to make a spectacular catch in the bottom of the 7th inning, and the Royals would eventually score the game winning runs as Drew Butera ended up with a triple.

JBJ did account for all the Red Sox runs blasting his 9th home run of the season in the top of the 4th inning. He was 3-4 on the night.

Andrew Benintendi was 2-5 with a triple, his 1st of the year. Xander Bogaerts was 2-5 and Hanley Ramirez was 2-4

Dustin Pedroia was out of the game after being hit in the ribs on Sunday. That ended up costing the Red Sox, as when Manager John Farrell pinch hit for Pablo Sandoval, the Sox had to have Christian Vazquez play 3rd base as Josh Rutledge was already in the game, playing 2nd.

Hector Velazquez started for the Red Sox and went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 3 and didn't walk anyone.

The Red Sox fell out of 1st place and are now 0.5 games behind the New York Yankees who were idle Monday. The Red Sox take on the Royals in the 2nd game of the series on Tuesday night, with Chris Sale taking the mound. The pregame starts at 7:30 with the 1st pitch at 8:15 on AM 1370 WDEA.
