A day after being embarrassed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 21-2, the Boston Red Sox doubled up the Angels Sunday afternoon, July 3rd 10-5 to finish the 1st half of the season with a 44-37 record. With Baltimore losing again to Seattle, the Red Sox now sit in 2nd place 3 games out of 1st.

The Boston Red Sox received a nice quality start from Sean O'Sullivan who was recalled from Triple A Pawtucket for the game. O'Sullivan pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 3 and striking out 2. He may be in line to pitch again, replacing Clay Buchholz in the starting rotation.

The Red Sox scored 7 runs in the 5th inning, a single-inning season high. The last time they scored as many runs in a single inning was back on September 5, 2015 when they plated 8 runs in the 4th inning against the Phillies.

David Oritz was 1-3 with a double and RBI and walked twice. The double in the 5th inning was his 1,157th career extra base hit, tying Carl Yastrzemski for 12th-most on the All-Time list. With Ortiz reaching base 3 times, he now has been on base 3,127 times and  passed Wade Boggs, for 5th most in Red Sox history!

Hanley Ramirez was 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. It's his 6th 3-hit gem of the season.

Sandy Leon was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBIs. His double knocked in 2 runs in the 7 run 5th. He has now reached base in 11 of his 14 games this season and all 8 of his starts. He is batting .457 going 16-35

Brock Holt was 2-4, and the Red Sox are now 24-9 when Holt is in the starting lineup!

The Boston Red Sox start a 3 game series with the Texas Rangers on Monday, July 4th, with the pregame starting at 12:50 and 1st pitch at 1:35. Rick Porcello is scheduled to take the mound.
