The Boston Red Sox were cruising along leading the Tampa Bay Rays 4-0 through the top of the 8th inning, when the bullpen imploded, allowing 6 runs, walking 4 and allowing 3 hits including a bases clearing triple by Denard Span. The Red Sox ended up losing 6-4.

The Red Sox wasted a great effort by Chris Sale, who threw 6 scoreless 1 hit innings walking 3 and striking out 9. Matt Barnes pitched a scoreless 7th before Joe Kelly and Carson Smith gave up the 6 runs in the 8th. Smith ended up with the loss and blown save.

Xander Bogaerts was 2-4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs batted in for the Red Sox. Eduardo Nunezwas 2-4 with an inside the park home run, driving in 2 runs.
