The Boston Red Sox improved to 2-0 on the young season, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0 Wednesday night, April 5th in 12 innings. The big blast was Sandy Leon's walk-off homer, his 1st career walk-off.

Leon was 3-5, and was just a triple short of hitting for the cycle. With multiple hits in  each of the 1st 2 games, Leon became the 1st Red Sox catcher since Sammy White in 1954 to record multiple hits in each of the Red Sox's 1st 2 games.

Chris Sale was everything Red Sox fans imagined he would be! He threw 7.0 innings, striking out 7, allowing just 3 hits and walking 1.

The bullpen was fantastic for the Red Sox, 5 Red Sox pitchers pitched 5 innings allowing just 2 hits. Joe Kelly picked up the win, pitching the 11th and 12th innings, allowing just 1 hit.

The Red Sox and Pirates conclude their 3 game series Thursday afternoon with the pregame starting at 12:50 and 1st pitch at 1:35 on AM 1370 WDEA. Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to take the mound for Boston. The Red Sox will then travel to Detroit for a 4 game series.
