The last time the Boston Red Sox were in 1st place it was April 18th. After the Red Sox defeated the Houston Astros 6-5 early Monday morning, they find themselves tied for 1st with the New York Yankees who have lost 6 games in a row.

Xander Bogaerts smacked 2 home runs. but the play of the game was Andrew Beninentenei throwing out Jose Altuve at the plate to keep the Astros from tying the game.

The game got a little chippy in the 6th inning when James Hoyt hit Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia went to the hospital for X-rays after his rib area tightened up and lost some range of motion.  Warnings were issued to both benches.

David Price started for the Red Sox and picked up the win. He's now 2-1. He went 5 innings, allowing 8 hits, 2 of which were home runs. He allowed 3 runs, striking out 3 and walking 3.

Craig Kimbrel picked up his 20th save of the season, striking out 1 in the 9th inning. Christian Vazquez threw out a runner trying to steal second base to end the game.

The Red Sox travel to Kansas City to open a 3 game series with the Kansas City Royals. Monday's pregame starts at 7:30 with the 1st pitch at 8:15 on AM 1370 WDEA. The Red Sox are scheduled to send Hector Velazquez to the mound.
