The Boston Red Sox beat the Houston Astros Friday night, June 16th, 2-1, in the 1st game of the 3 game series in Houston. The win puts the Red Sox just 1.0 game behind the 1st place New York Yankees who lost their 4th game in a row Friday night.

Mookie Betts hit the game winning home run in the top of the 8th, his 12th of the season. Dustin Pedroia was 2-4 and Jackie Bradley Jr. had a triple.

In addition to the home run, Betts threw out a runner at the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Drew Pomeranz started the game for the Red Sox and went 6.1 innings, allowing just 4 hits, and 1 earned run while striking out 4 and walking 3.

Joe Kelly picked up the win in relief, he's now 3-0 and Craig Kimbrel picked up his 19th save of the season, pitching a hitless 9th inning.

The Red Sox take on the Astros Saturday night, in the 2nd game of the series with Rick Porcello scheduled to pitch for Boston. The pregame starts at 7:30 PM with the 1st pitch at 8:15 on AM 1370 WDEA.
