Bangor Hydro Electric Company has made good progress in restoring power to customers, and have reduced the outages from a little over 30,000 to 22,000 as of 4 PM this afternoon.

Customers should make plans to stay elsewhere if they are without power as many will be out until Friday. Community shelters have been set up in many areas. See below for the shelters that are open. It is going to be bitterly cold tonight, and sheltering in place without heat is not a good option!

Here are the shelters that are open as of 4 PM

Restoration Details:Nearly 400 employees and outside resources are working to restore power to Bangor Hydro customers today. Progress has been slow due to the amount of damage to the system and heavy ice weighing down on power lines and tree limbs. Customers should make plans to stay elsewhere if they are without power as many will be out until Friday. Community shelters have been set up in many areas. A full list is available at http://www.maine.gov/mema/mema_masscare.shtml. Crews will continue to work day and night to restore power.

Regular project work has been delayed so that all available crews may address the outage situation. Routine maintenance will be delayed as well.

The public is reminded that power lines are not safe to touch or drive over. Please contact us to handle these dangerous situations.

Other Related Information:Customers may report outages or ask questions by calling our Customer Service Centers at 1-800-440-1111 (Bangor Hydro) and 877-655-4448 (Maine Public Service).
Estimated Time of Service Restoration:It will be at least until the end of the day Friday before all power is restored.
