Police have released the identities of three people killed last night in Dedham. An SUV veered into the opposite lane and struck a pickup truck.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says 85-year-old Richard Olson from Ellsworth, who is also from Des Moines, Iowa was driving the SUV. His Chevy Tahoe crossed the center line and struck a GMC pickup carrying Phillip Carter, age 32, and Roxanne Papken, age 25, both of Bangor. All three victims died at the scene.

The accident happened at around 5:45 Tuesday evening, about a mile from the Lucerne Inn on Route 1A. Troopers say Olson was headed toward Ellsworth and, at this point, there's no explanation why he veered into the other lane.

Route 1A opened at around 11 o'clock last night, after being closed for over five hours.
