Police have now ruled the death of an elderly man a homicide. His body was found in his home on Friday.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland says the body of Aurele Fecteau, 92, was discovered Friday afternoon by a relative who had gone to check on him. Fecteau lived at 33 Brooklyn Avenue in Waterville, near the high school. He retired from Scott Paper Company years ago and had lived alone since the death of his wife in 2009.

State and Waterville police are still not releasing any details until after an autopsy was completed. An appeal to the public has turned up some observations from area residents. Investigators are interviewing friends, family, and neighbors, trying to determine what happened.

Any area residents who think they may have seen anything suspicious are urged to call the State Police in Augusta or the Waterville Police.
