Police Charge Sex Offender Following Downtown Bangor Assaults
Earlier this year the Bangor Police Department responded to two reports of sexual assaults that took place.
Lt. Paul Edwards says on June 15th they responded to a report of a sexual assault in the downtown area involving an adult female and a male suspect. Then on July 9th to a separate report of an attempted sexual assault of an adult female by a male suspect in the area of Hammond Street, during which a weapon was brandished.
Lt. Edwards says as a result of their investigation 55 year old Ernest Nieders has been arrested and charged with Gross Sexual Assault, Attempted Gross Sexual Assault, and Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon.
Lt. Edwards says Nieders is a registered sex offender with multiple convictions in Colorado and California.
He is currently being held at the Penobscot County Jail on $150,000 cash bail.
