12:45 PM Sunday January 5th - The Maine Department of Transportation announced that the bridge will be closed until 8 AM on Monday, January 6th when it will be inspected to determine how much ice has melted.

The Maine Department of Transportation announced on Friday, January 3, that the Penobscot Narrows Bridge will be closed beginning on Sunday, January 5th, at 12 Noon and closed throughout the rest of the day. The closure will hopefully allow the remaining ice to melt off the bridge cables and pylons.

Motorists will need to seek alternate routes throughout the day on Sunday. MDOT personnel will be on hand to monitor the melting process. If enough ice is melted, the bridge could possibly re-open on Sunday night. Conversely, if not enough has melted, motorists may need to use alternate routes on Monday, January 6th.

We will have all the updates throughout the weekend
