Everyone knew that the Boston Red Sox were going to have to make a difficult roster decision on Friday, May 25th when Dustin Pedroia was set to be activated after having cartilage replacement surgery in his left knee. "Experts" were talking that Blake Swihart would be traded. Maybe Jackie Bradley Jr. or Brock Holt would be sent to AAA Pawtucket or Eduardo Nunez might pay a visit to the disabled list. No one, predicted that Hanley Ramirez would be designated for assignment!

The Red Sox now have 7 days to trade or release Ramirez. They're on the hook for almost $15 million dollars of his remaining salary for this year. But, they're not liable for his $22 million option for 2019 which would have kicked in if he had reached 497 plate appearances this season.

For now, the Red Sox will make do with Mitch Moreland/Brock Holt/Blake Swihart at first base.

So, if you were the Red Sox General Manager would you have designated for assignment Hanley Ramirez? Take the poll and let us know!
