The Red Sox fire sale is underway - RHP Jake Peavy has been traded to the San Francisco Giants for two minor league pitchers, according to multiple baseball sources.

The trade deadline is next Thursday and it appears Peavy will not be the only Sox player to get moved.

For Peavy, it has been a tough-luck pitching season. A 1-9 record in 20 starts with a 4.72 ERA. Peavy was a victim of poor run support all year.

The return for Peavy nets the Sox two Triple-A pitchers from the Giants...

Heath Hembree (25):  RHP relief pitcher who has been in 41 games with a 3.89 ERA. Baseball America ranked Hembree as the SF Giants #7 prospect at the start of the year.

Edwin Escobar (22):  LHP starter pitcher with a 3-8 recored and a 5.11 ERA. Baseball America ranked Escobar as the SF Giants #2 prospect at the start of the year.

The Red Sox play the Tampa Bay Rays in game 2 of their series tonight in Tampa. You can hear the game on AM 1370 WDEA with the pregame starting at 6:25 PM and first pitch at 7:10 PM.
