Today, Monday April 17th is Patriot's Day and Maine is one of only 3 states that celebrate today as a holiday. The others are Massachusetts, which is a no-brainer and Wisconsin, which is a bit odd. Patriot's Day commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.

Today is a State holiday and banks are closed. The Post Office is open and will be delivering mail as it's not a federal holiday. Schools are closed, as they're on April vacation, but even year-round staff have the day off today.
