At Fenway Park last night, it was all about the countdown and the kids in a 4-3 cliffhanger win for the Boston Red Sox over the New York Yankees.

The countdown is David Ortiz and closing in on 500 home runs. He blasted #495 and almost had #496.

The kids are Mookie Betts with a 2-run homer, Jackie Bradley with three hits and a throw to the plate to gun down a runner, and, Eduardo Rodriguez pitching five innings of two run ball despite not having his best stuff.

It all resulted in a thriller - the Yankees made Sox closer Jean Machi throw 33 pitches in the ninth inning. He gave up a bases loaded walk to make it a one run game. And, with two out and two on, Machi gave up a long flyball to rightfield that Rusney Castillo chased down to end the game.

The Sox finish August with a 15-12 record. That's their best month since April. The Red Sox play the Yankees in game 2 of the series Tuesday night with the pregame starting at 6:25 and first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
