PA Governor Responds to Merrimack Police Department’s Threat to Arrest the Groundhog!

The other day, we reported that the Merrimack New Hampshire Police had issued a warrant for Phil, Punxsutawney Phil to be exact, because when he saw his shadow, he didn't disclose the fact that there would be mountains of snow!

Well, the Governor of Pennsylvania hasn't taken that threat lightly! “Punxsutawney Phil is not just some average rodent – he is an American legend and Pennsylvania hero,” Governor Tom Wolf said. “We will do what is necessary to protect our beloved weather-predicting groundhog. The Merrimack Police Department should drop their cold-hearted plan to arrest Phil. I hope cooler heads prevail before this situation really heats up.”

Governor Wolf has asked New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan to intervene and put a stop to this threat. “If necessary, I will ask the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle to increase security at Phil’s stump or place Phil in protective custody until this outrageous warrant is rescinded,” Governor Wolf said.
