The Old Town Girls defeated MDI 8-7 in 8 innings Monday, May 5th, knocking MDI from the ranks of the unbeaten.

MDI took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Shelby O'Neil singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Sierra Myrick. O'Neil advanced to 3rd base on a passed ball and then scored when Avalon Kerley grounded out to the pitcher, who threw to 1st base.

MDI's Shelby O'Neil Scores the 2nd Run of the Game Against Old Town (5/5/14 Photo Chris Popper[/caption]MDI pushed across another run in the top of the 5th inning to make it 2-0. Senior Shelby O'Neil stroked a double, and reached 3rd base on a single by Sierra Myrick, and then scored on a ground out to third base by Avalon Kerley.

Old Town would take the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning, as they scored 3 runs to take the 3-2 lead. Old Town had two hits and took advantage of a couple of errors, a passed ball and a bases load walk.

Old Town would then score 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, to take a 7-2 lead. Old Town had 3 hits, but again MDI's defense committed an error that allowed Old Town to score 2 runs.

In the top of the 7 inning, MDI came charging back, scoring 5 runs to tie the score. Shelby O'Neil hit her 2nd double of the game, and then Sierra Myrick singled. Molly Carroll singled driving in O'Neil. Kerley singled driving in Myrick. Anna Busker popped out to second for the first out.  Ali Bierman reached on an error by the shortstop, which scored Carroll. Deandra Kanu singled and that scored Kerley and Bierman, and the score was tied. MDI sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the 7th.

Old Town would win the game on a walk off double by Rachel Martin, after Karah Hussey had doubled to start the bottom of the 8th.

For MDI, Shelby O'Neil was 4-4 batting, with 3 runs scored. Sierra Myrick was 2-3 with a run scored and Avalon Kerley was 1-5 batting, with 3 runs batted in, and 1 run scored.

For Old Town Karah Hussey was 3-5 with 3 runs scored and a run batted in. Rachel Marting was 4-5 and the game winning run batted in.

Haley Littlefield suffered her first loss, and is now 4-1. She went 7 innings, giving up 8 runs, 6 of which were earned. She walked 4, struck out 4 and gave up 8 hits.

Rachel Marin picked up the win for Old Town, pitching 8 innings. She gave up 7 runs, 5 of which were earned. She walked 3, struck out 6 and allowed 12 hits.

Old Town now sits atop the Class B Heal Points with a 6-0 record. MDI suffered their first loss of the season, and are now 4-1.Old Town travels to play at Ellsworth on Wednesday, May 7th, and MDI plays at home against John Bapst Wednesday, May 7th at 4:30 and then a doubleheader this Saturday, May 10th in Presque Isle at 12 Noon and 2 PM.
