For the 1st time ever in MDI High School's history, the MDI Trojans are the Northern Maine Champions and will play in the State Championship Game on Saturday, November 19th at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland! The Trojans advanced to the finals, after defeating Winslow 12-7 on a cold, blustery night in Bar Harbor in the Class C Regional Finals.

MDI won the coin toss and decided to defer, kicking off to the Winslow Black Raiders. Winslow took over at their own 29 yard line, and marched down the field and scored on their opening drive, on a Nate St. Amand 46 yard touchdown run. Ryan Gagnon's kick was good, and Winslow led 7-0 with 9:06 left in the 1st Quarter.

MDI took over on their own 29 yard line, but were forced to punt, and Winslow took over at the 50 yard line with 7:01 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

The Black Raiders marched down the field, but MDI's defense stiffened and Winslow was forced to try a field goal from the 10 yard line. The kick was wide, and MDI took over with 1:11 remaining in the 1st Quarter on their 20 yard line.

The Trojans held onto the ball for 7:03 before turning the ball over on downs, and Winslow took over on their own 29 yard line with 6:08 remaining in the 1st Half. The Trojan's defense forced a 3 and out, and Winslow was forced to punt.

The Trojans took over on their own 35 yard line and punched it in when Graham Good scored from 2 yards out with no time left in the 1st Half. The biggest play in the drive was a halfback pass from Chris Farnsworth to quarterback Andrew Phelps that went for 26 yards, setting up Good's touchdown. Drew Rich's kick was no good and the 1st Half ended with Winslow up 7-6.

MDI took the opening kick off in the 2nd Half and were forced to punt. Winslow was forced to punt and then the Trojans took over on their own 14 yard line with 5:49 left in the 3rd Quarter. The Trojans ate up the clock, in a drive that took 8:27 and culminated in Chris Farnsworth's 2 yard touchdown. MDI benefited from 2 big penalties against the Winslow Black Raiders, a 15 yard hitting after the whistle penalty, and then an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that moved MDI half the distance to the goal line. MDI went for 2 points and Winslow stopped MDI at the goal line. With 9:22 remaining in the game MDI was up 12-7.

Winslow took over on their own 35 yard line and was marching when Jimmy Carroll intercepted the ball in the end zone and MDI took over with 5:07 remaining.

The Trojans were forced to punt, and Winslow had 1 last chance with 2:39 remaining in the game, but the MDI defense forced a turnover on down, and the Trojans were able to run out the clock for their 1st ever regional title and their 2nd win over the Winslow Black Raiders in program history, the 1st being in 2010, coincidentally in Bar Harbor.

MDI's defense was stellar, limiting Winslow to just 124 yards rushing and 25 yards passing.

After the games the Trojans took a little ride accompanied by the Island's bravest and finest
