No one was hurt when fire destroyed a home in Lamoine overnight.

According to the town's Facebook page, crews were called to the Needles Eye Road at around 11:30 Wednesday night. Firefighters found the building fully engulfed and it had already started to collapse. The State Fire Marshal's office will work to try and determine the cause of the fire but the damage is so severe, it may not be possible.

The homeowner wasn't home at the time of the fire, but returned to the scene after being contacted by the Hancock County Sheriff's Department. He told officials that he does have insurance for the property. Firefighters found his dog and cat safe, but the house is  a total loss.

Responding departments included Lamoine, Ellsworth, Trenton, and Hancock. Other departments in Hancock County were placed on standby.
