What a difference playing with the lead makes! The Maine Maritime Academy's Men's Basketball Team picked up their first win of the season, and Coach David Munchnick picked up his first victory as the Men's Basketball Coach at Maine Maritime Academy, when the Mariners rolled over the UMaine Augusta Moose 103-73 on Friday November 21st. Maine Maritime is now 1-3 on the season, while UMaine Augusta is 1-6.

In the Mariners first three losses of the season, they dug themselves too large of a hole to come back, and Coach Muchnick spoke about it, in his weekly coach's show on WDEA. Friday night's game was different, freshman Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) opened up the scoring for the Mariners to go ahead 2-0, and continued to lead the way all night, with a team-high 19 points. Maine Maritime stretched that lead to 5-0 on Nick Holt's (Ellsworth, Maine) three-pointer, and never looked back.

The Mariners entered halftime with a 50-35 lead, and stretched their lead to as much as 33 points in the closing moments of the game, sparked by a 12-point run with a little under 13 minutes remaining in the game.

Thayer added eight assists, two rebounds and a steal while Holt ended the evening with 18 points, three steals, three assists, and a rebound. Freshman Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) grabbed 13 points, five rebounds, and an assist off the bench and Kyle Boucher (Wayne, Maine) added 14 boards, nine points, and three blocks.

"I am very happy with how we played, we played for 40 minutes tonight. We are entering the Thanksgiving break with some momentum, hopefully we can carry that into our conference opener when we return" said Head Coach David Muchnick.

The Mariners will return to action on December 2nd when they travel to UMaine-Farmington, to open up North Atlantic Conference play at 7:30 PM.
