Maine Maritime Academy (0-3) fell to the University of Maine at Presque Isle (3-0) on Wednesday night 86-67, inside of Smith Gym.

Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with a game-high 22 points, while Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) added 13 points and three assists. Jason Hatch (Isleboro, Maine) came just shy of a double-double with 12 rebounds and nine points.

The Owls were led by Chase Vicaire who had a team high-21 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Maurice Harris grabbed a double-double with 15 points, and 12 boards.

Despite entering the half down 44-17, the Mariners continued to fight, outscoring the Owls 50-42 in the second half. Maine Maritime cut the Maine Presque Isle lead to 72-57, following a seven-point run, with 5:35 remaining in the game. Even with momentum on their side the early deficit proved to be too much for the Mariners.

"Though I am happy with our second half again, we have to find ways to start games off better," said Head Coach David Muchnick.

The Mariners held the Owls to just a 26.9% shooting percentage in the second half, and went 95% from the line, picking up 19 points from the line.

Maine Maritime will return to action this Friday night when they host Maine August at 7:00 PM.

"We have one day of practice to get ready for Maine August on Friday, where I expect a 40 minute effort from our guys," added Muchnick.
