MDOT Webcams Come In Handy For Winter Drivers

Want to know how the driving conditions on the Maine Turnpike or Interstate 95?  The Maine Department of Transportation can show you whats happening in real time with a series of live webcams up and down the highway!

These are especially helpful on days like today when the weather may be very different from one end of the state to the other.  The MDOT has set up a series of nineteen different cameras along the highway.  One camera is way off the beaten trail, aimed at the Dickey Bridge which spans the St. John River in northern Piscataquis County.

With all the problems that this winter is creating with the Penobscot Narrows Bridge outside of Bucksport, it may be a good idea to set up a webcam there also!  Then, we'd be able to tell when the bridge is either open or closed.

The MDOT issued a press release today as they deal with the quick difference in temperatures, in the release they say, "Today, we are working across the state to minimize drainage problems caused by the spike in temperatures and tonight we’ll be working to de-ice the roads,” Doughty cautions. “As the temperatures plummet tonight, please watch out for black ice. If you don’t have to go out this evening, play it safe and stay home.”
