The MDI Girl's Volleyball Team had a lot riding on the final three games of the season. Friday night was Senior Night for the girls, the last regular season game they would play at Bernard Parady Gymnasium, and it was Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Saturday, the doubleheader in Cony would help determine whether the Trojans would host a playoff game. Well, the Trojans came through with flying colors, sweeping all three games!

Friday Night against Calais.MDI defeated Calais 3-1. Individual game scores were 18-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16

From Coach Corey

On senior night our seniors played strong in what may be the last home game of their high school careers.  The result was a victory but it was bittersweet in that our time with them is nearing an end.  They have provided strong leadership for this young team, and it has been a pleasure coaching them and we will miss their presence in the gym.  Our four seniors are Madeline Cook, Wildes Ho, Deandra Kanu, and Brigitte Parady.  They played really well all night long.  The team also raised nearly $200 for breast cancer research; the pink balls were quite a hit.

From Coach Corey

In the first game of our doubleheader, MDI continued right where they left off against Calais.  Although not our best match of the year, we served and passed really well putting us in position to make plays.  It was really just a warm-up for our last regular season game.

MDI Stat Leaders

Sarah Phelps: 8 aces, 9 kills, 5 assist, 3 digs

Madeline Cook 1 ace, 10 kills, 7 assists, 1 dig

Deandra Kanu 3 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist

In game 2, MDI defeated Cheverus 3-0 with the set totals 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.

From Coach Corey

Trying a lineup and rotation that we had not used all year, we tried to mix things up in our last regular season game.  The result was a success as the girls turned in one of their best performances of the year.  They hustled all match long, better than we’ve seen them to date and the result was better sets and more kills.  Everything was clicking for the offense and the defense saved a lot of balls.  A great way to end the regular season and a good boost of confidence going into the playoffs next week.

MDI Stat Leaders

Camilla Tai 7 aces, 5 kills, 1 dig

Sarah Phelps 11 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig

Deandra Kanu 4 aces, 7 kills

Riley Mooers 6 aces, 3 kills
