October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During Friday night's MDI-Ellsworth Volleyball game, the MDI Volleyball Team wore pink socks in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They had a bake sale, raffle and sold pink T-shirts.

I can't tell you enough how great I think this is! Unfortunately, we all know someone who has had cancer. Many of us know someone who has had breast cancer. My mother has had breast cancer, and I have had cancer twice.

The MDI Girl's Basketball Team always does a Breast Cancer Awareness Game. The Football Team typically wears pink socks during a game in October.

The number 1 key to survival is early detection.  By taking part in Breast Cancer Awareness events, we hope that these young ladies learn the importance of monthly breast self examinations. We hope they remind their mothers and aunts about the importance of yearly mammograms. We hope they will be advocates and supporters for friends and relatives that have cancer
