October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The MDI Volleyball Team was wearing pink Friday night, October 12th in their last home match of the season against Calais.

It was Senior Recognition Night, and a chance to thank Delaney Shields and Julia Link along with their parents. There was a bake sale, and face painting. Athletic Director Bunky Dow and WDEA's Chris Popper had the Pink Breast Cancer Ribbon painted on their face. Assistant Athletic Director Matt Umphrey 1-upped them both, getting a large ribbon on the canvas on the top of his head!

Although everyone had a fun time with the pictures, the seriousness of Breast Cancer can't be understated. Unfortunately we all know at least one person who has been impacted by breast cancer. I love the fact that these high school students realize this. Please remember the best chance for survival is early detection. Women should be performing self exams monthly. Women should be in consultation with their gynecologist/primary doctor about when to schedule yearly mammograms and then make sure they are done.
