MDI Ready to Snap the Ball Against Old Town 10/25/13[/caption]The MDI Trojans needed to win their final game of the season to have a chance to finish 2nd in Class C, but they were facing a determined Old Town team that was playing at home on Senior Night. MDI came away with a convincing 42-22 victory, in a game that was essentially decided at half time, when MDI led 35-0.

Old Town won the coin toss and deferred, allowing MDI to receive the ball first. MDI returned the ball to their 26 yard line, and in a drive that took less than 2 minutes, scored when Taner Bickford scored on a 18 yard run. Jon Phelps kicked the extra point and with 9:54 remaining in the 1st Quarter, MDI led 7-0.

MDI recovered a Old Town fumble on the Old Town 32 yard line, with 9:23 remaining in the 1st Quarter, and Teagan Candage scored on a 32 yard run, and when Jon Phelps kicked the extra point, MDI was up on top 14-0 with 9:15 left in the 1st Quarter.

Old Town took over on their 31 yard line, and ate up nearly 8 minutes of the clock, effectively moving the ball down the field. But the MDI defense stiffened, and Isaiah Keene intercepted a Jake Jarvis pass in the end zone, and the Trojans took over on their own 20 yard line with 53.3 seconds left in the 1st Quarter.

Starting at their own 20, MDI moved the ball down the field, and Teagan Candage scored his second touchdown of the game, this a 2 yard run, in a drive that took 2:57. Phelps' point after attempt was no good, and MDI was up top 20-0 with 9:10 remaining in the half.

After a Old Town drive stalled, MDI took over on their own 36 yard line with 7:20 remaining in the half. Jon Phelps then let loose a 64 yard pass that floated into the arms of Dakota Stewart who raced into the end zone. The drive took :48 seconds, and Phelps' kick was good, and with 6:32 left in the half, MDI was up 27-0.

The Trojans took possession of the ball on their own 40 with 4:53 left in the half, and the Trojans scored on a 9 play drive that took 4:31, culminating with a Sandy Henggeler 1 yard run. Teagan Candage scored on the 2 point conversion, and with 22.7 seconds remaining in the half, MDI led 35-0.

MDI continued the scoring in the 3rd Quarter when Jalique Keene ran in from 12 yards out, in a drive that took 2:20. Phelps' kick was good, and MDI led 42-0 with 7:01 left in the 3rd Quarter.

MDI substituted liberally for the better part of the 3rd and 4th quarters. Old Town scored with 2:19 left in the 3rd Quarter when Braden Upshaw scored on a 7 yard run.The drive took 4:35. The 2 point pass was good, and MDI led 42-8 with 2:19 left in the 3rd Quarter.

Old Town scored with 10:02 left in the game. A 1:58 drive resulted in Andre Miller scoring on a 2 yard run. The two point pass attempt failed and it was 42-14 with 10:02 left in the game.

The final score of the game belonged to Old Town. Cody Whitmore punched it in from 16 yards out, a drive that took 2:51. The two point attempt was good and the score was 42-22 and that's how the game ended.

With the victory, MDI closes out the regular season 6-2. Old Town finishes at 4-4 and will finish in 6th place in the Crabtree Points. If Winslow defeats Waterville Saturday afternoon, MDI will have a bye, and will finish 2nd. If Waterville defeats Winslow, MDI will finish 3rd in the Crabtree Points and will host Old Town, Friday November 1st in the playoff game at 7 PM.
